I had a great epiphany about the goodness of God on my birthday.
I found myself waiting for someone I held in high regards to send me a birthday greeting.
But by evening when I didn’t receive any, I found myself crying out to God.
And that’s when I realized a truth:
No matter how good I think a man is, I can never rely on him to be good to me.
He can be the best of the best but I can never be certain if his heart is for me. I can only pray. Cross my fingers and cross my toes.
But God is my good Father and I know without a shadow of doubt that He’ll be good to me.
Not only is He willing to be good to me, He is able to do good for me.
100 percent goodness. Undiluted. Unqualified. Unadulterated.
And I’m reminded of this chorus in Chris Tomlin’s Good Good Father:
You’re a good good father
It’s who you are, it’s who you are, it’s who you are
And I’m loved by you
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
Maybe you’re in a situation where you’re looking to someone to do good to you.
A boss to give you a promotion?
A colleage to help you with your work load?
A relative to give you financial aid?
Instead of relying on someone to do good to you, how about turning your eyes to look to your Father God instead?
Isaiah 30.18 tell us that He is waiting for you to come to Him. He longs to be gracious to you. He wants to show you His love and compassion!
Friend, know that you have a good good Father God.
And He longs to do good to you and for you.
