…He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son. ~ Ephesians 1:3–6, MSG
To kick-start the new year, let me share with you a fresh, beautiful picture the Lord just showed me.
It came through a time I was meditating about Jesus our Bridegroom. And not long after, I heard the Message version of this verse in Ephesians 1:3–6.
“How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.”
Read the last sentence. Do you see this beautiful picture I see?
Just like how a father give away the hand of his daughter in a marriage, here is God the Father giving away Jesus as the bridegroom to the church.
WOW. Isn’t that just mind-blowing?
I can’t begin to tell you how that picture blesses me over and over again. As I replay that image repeatedly in my head, I began to see myself at the receiving end of this lavish gift. I began to see the love and joy of the Father as He places the hand of His beloved Son into mine.
God’s Word tells us how much He so love the world, He gave us His one and only begotten Son. So how did He give?
Grudgingly? Hesistantly? Despairingly?
NO. He gave…
Lovingly. Willingly. Lavishly.
Friend, see the heart of God. He who exposed Himself to the worst by giving up His Son to a world of sinners. He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for you and me.
He didn’t give you something that money can buy. He didn’t give you someone He made from the dust. He didn’t even give you His best angel.
He gave you His one and only beloved Son. He gave you a part of Himself.
Now, take a moment to picture this: You standing at one end of the marriage aisle and God is walking Jesus down the aisle toward you. Will you stretch out your hand to receive this wonderful love gift today?
It’ll be the best way to start the new year! And definitely a cause for a grand celebration!
